Charles Atlas Exercises – Dynamic Tension and Isometric

Many people are under the misconception that Charles Atlas exercises from the dynamic tension course are all isometric exercises.

Nothing could be further from the truth although Charles Atlas used isometrics and his training program many of the exercises in the dynamic tension course consists of body weight exercises.

Exercises such as… push-ups, situps, ab crunches and others. Interestingly enough the term dynamic tension can be considered isometrics. In a minute, I will give you the best Charles Atlas exercises, but I have a confession to make.

You see as a young 12 year old boy I had a paper route. While this paper route did not generate a great deal of money it did allow some small comforts, things like ice cream, comic books, and Muscle Building Magazines.

While reading one of those comic books I stumbled upon a small ad in the back for a Charles atlas dynamic tension exercise course. I wasn't a 97 pound weakling, I don't remember even weighing that much.

You see my freshman year in high school I weighed 102 pounds! The only reason I remember that is because that was the weight I wrestled at in my freshman year.

What Are the Best Charles Atlas Exercises?

But back to the story and let me fill you in on what are the best Charles Atlas exercises.

That entire summer I saved every single penny from my paper route and I sent away for the Charles atlas course. As you can imagine, I eagerly awaited its arrival. Each day I would check my mailbox to see if it had arrived.

I will always remember the day it arrived.

I tore the envelope opened and pulled out my very first lesson. Visions of huge muscles and no longer being picked on raced through my head. I started that very moment training.

For those of you that are not familiar with Charles atlas, he designed an exercise program that used a combination of isometrics and bodyweight exercises. He also had some interesting twists to the exercises.

For example, instead of just doing push ups on the floor, you would perform some of the pushups on three chairs.

The Absolute Best Chest Exercise

By doing it this way it allowed me to go deeper in the exercise, this caused my chest muscles to respond very quickly. Well, you can imagine how happy I was.

My newfound strength and increasing muscle size allowed me to perform very well in gym class.

It's been years now since I used the Charles atlas course and while it has its place in history I've long since realized its limitations. Bodyweight exercises can only go so far in building size and strength. To build a strong and muscular body, you must use progressive resistance.

In other words, the limitations of the Charles atlas exercises, as in all bodyweight only exercise programs is that there is no ability to add additional resistance.

You can increase its effectiveness by using, isometric exercise equipment, resistance bands, a weight vest or another person's bodyweight. Using these simple tips you will be able to perform more effective Charles atlas exercises.

Is the Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension Course Obsolete?

Today the Charles Atlas course is no longer considered an excellent training program. There has been much learned in the field of exercise physiology that has made this course obsolete. For instance it was revealed in court that Charles Atlas also used resistance training (resistance bands, cables, and free weights) as part of his workout program.

The problem with all bodyweight exercise programs is that they do not utilize "Progressive Resistance." In the beginning body weight exercises will get you results but soon you will find that you will have plateaued.

The only way to stimulate increased muscle growth is by having additional resistance or weight. That is why the Bully Xtreme isometric exerciser is far better than using just your body weight.

This may sound biased — however, for the price that you would pay for the Charles Atlas dynamic tension course you would get an exerciser which can perform more than 82 health club type exercises and you can train with it using isotonics and/or isometrics.

The training program that is included with the Bully Xtreme is both comprehensive and easy to perform. Step-by-step instructions that will easily have you gaining up to 300% more strength in less than 30 days.

I love the article keep up the great work.

A friend of mine recommended that I check out the Bully Xtreme website. Quite frankly, I find that you offer more support and information about building muscle and stuff than any other product on the market today.

I will be putting in my order shortly for the bully.
