I don't know about you but my cable movie provider offers a channel which is all about the martial arts.


Every time I see an old Bruce Lee movie I sit there awed by his incredible muscularity, V tapered body and incredible speed.

Not everyone knows this but at one point in time the Bruce Lee workout program incorporated bodybuilding into the training schedule.

Although, he gave up on the body building workout because he found that he gained too much size. He was effective in changing the bodybuilding scene because of his ripped muscularity.

At a time in which bodybuilding shows were won based on sheer muscle bulk… Bruce Lee revealed what a functional yet muscular and stron body looks like.

For a martial artist or a mixed martial artist — becoming larger is not necessarily the goal. The objective is to be strong, yet flexible.

Because to him having a strong and flexible body was the most important thing — Bruce Lee incorporated "cross training" into his exercise routine. He probably was the first martial artist to do so.

It is no wonder then, Bruce Lee used isometric exercise as an integral part of his workout routine. Iso-tension was something that Bruce Lee was very familiar with. Isometrics has been used in martial arts training for years.

In fact, isometric exercises are also a part of Pilates, yoga, as well as having been used by many old-time strongman in their strength training programs.

Although, he used isometric training after he injured his back performing a "Good Morning Exercise" it wasn't until he had read a book called "Functional Isometrics" by Robert Hoffman, the Olympic powerlifting coach — that he begin to utilize isometric exercise equipment extensively.

One of the first pieces of exercise equipment that he used was a device called the Tensolator which later on became the Bullworker.

He used this piece of isometric exercise equipment to build strength power in his punching and trapping.
